To help meet the emergency financial needs of people from our industry who have HIV or AIDS, EAA established the Marc Berman Financial Assistance Program (in honor of its founder) in 1995.

Even in today's world of protease-inhibitors and drug cocktails, HIV and AIDS can still be debilitating and disabling diseases. And, even the most rudimentary pharmaceutical treatments are very expensive. Since it's inception, the Berman Fund has helped hundreds of individuals from the home entertainment industry and has given emergency assistance funds of $120,000 in total.

The program is administered by Los Angeles-based Aid for AIDS, one of the country's leading programs offering direct financial assistance to people with HIV and AIDS.

"We believe that there are significant numbers of individuals who currently work - or have formerly worked - within the video industry who may need assistance in paying their bills," said Sue Procko, EAA Past President. "They just don't know where to turn, and we want them to know that there is help available."

Applying for a Berman Fund grant is simple. Simply contact Aid for AIDS at (323) 656 1107, and express interest in the Marc Berman Financial Assistance Program sponsored by EAA. Aid for AIDS will ask for the following information:

  • HIV or AIDS diagnosis (signed by the individual's physician)
  • Statement of financial need and income sources
  • Proof of current or former employment in the video industry in any capacity, in any job function, from such companies as:
    • Studios
    • Production companies
    • Duplicators and DVD pressers
    • Advertising and marketing companies
    • Printers and packaging suppliers
    • Fulfillment companies
    • All other video-related suppliers and vendors

Once Aid for AIDS receives an application and authenticates the individual's qualification for the Berman Fund, the process remains completely anonymous. The identity of the beneficiaries of the Berman Fund will never be disclosed by EAA or by Aid for AIDS.
