Happy new year to you all. I hope you celebrated the start of 2018 in good spirits with family and friends.
It is my immense pleasure to have been elected to the EAA board of directors, alongside John Bailey, Evie Cowan, Eugenio De Caprio and Deborah Speckman for the upcoming season. Now that we’re a few days into the new year, it is good to look ahead and think about what this year may bring us. But first, a quick look back.
2017 was quite a year for all of us at the EAA. We have achieved many successes, including that spectacular evening in June where we raised a glass to Jewel Thais-Williams and the talented, inspirational gentlemen of Strike a Pose. We also had a deliciously campy good time raising money for our cause at Hamburger Mary’s, with the help of David Hernandez and the singular Thea Austin.
2017 was also bittersweet, as we saw the retirement of long time board members. We also performed a deep, introspective examination of our organization as a whole to determine how to best move ahead. Lastly, we said goodbye to our colleague, friend and sister, Heather Hinkel.
In short, our current circumstances are quite challenging. Be that as it may, we must support and challenge each other to not lose sight of our priority: to be strong and financially sustainable givers that
put our cause at the heart of everything we do. Showing our beneficiaries how we can be of service, simply because we are!
It is important for us to use our time wisely and move forward as decisively and swiftly as we can in 2018. That will only be possible with your continued dedication and teamwork.
The board and I are already hard at work developing a strategy for 2018 and beyond. We invite you to join us on Monday, February 12, 2018 (Location to Be Announced) when we will share that vision, seek your input and—together—move forward.
Happy New Year. The best is yet to come!
